Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle therapy that can have powerful results. Its holistic approach works directly with the nervous system to bring balance to the entire body. Imbalances in the nervous system can cause dysfunction in nearly every other system of the body (musculoskeletal, vascular, lymphatic, respiratory, and endocrine systems) With a soft touch, usually no more than 5 grams of pressure(the weight of a nickel), your therapist will use the craniosacral rhythm to locate and release dysfunction in the tissues. With the nervous system free to perform at its best your body will eliminate pain and stress, as well as strengthen its resistance to disease.
What is the Craniosacral System?
Craniosacral System is the physiological system that helps maintain the central nervous system and function of the brain. It is comprised of membranes and cerebrospinal fluid which surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Craniosacral (cerebrospinal ) fluid is produced in the brain and reabsorbed into the body with a hydraulic-like motion. This motion pumps fluid from the brain and down the spinal canal in order to keep tissues nourished and healthy. This process creates a subtle rhythm that the therapist can palate and use to find restrictions within the body.
What Can I expect from a Craniosacral Session?
You will lie down, fully clothed on a comfortable massage table. Your therapist will gently palpate the craniosacral rhythm to find and treat restrictions. Every session is highly individualized. Some feel an “unwinding” of tissues, releases from deep within, as well as leaving very relaxed. Because of the gentle nature of this work, it is beneficial to most regardless of age. However, there are a few conditions in which CST should not be done. Please list all pertinent information on your health information sheet and let the practitioner know if you have any questions.
